Publishing Operations

PUBLISHING OPERATIONS

The back office of your publishing house, automated

Submission systems, metadata pipelines, author payments, email and reporting — engineered into one connected stack, so a small team can run a large catalogue without drowning in admin.

Your team is doing work a system should be doing

Copying metadata between a submission portal, a spreadsheet and a Crossref deposit form. Sending the same four emails by hand, forty times a week. Reconciling APC payments against a list of accepted articles. Rebuilding the same monthly report because the numbers live in five places.

None of that is publishing. It’s the tax you pay for systems that were never connected. Amplionix removes it — we map the operation you actually run, then build the automation, integrations and tooling that make it run itself.

What we automate

Submission & triage

Automated acknowledgements, plagiarism screening, format checks and routing rules, so every manuscript is sorted before an editor opens it.

Reviewer operations

Invitation sequences, staged reminders, automatic reassignment on non-response and live status dashboards for your editorial team.

Metadata & deposits

One source of truth for article metadata, with automated Crossref deposits, ORCID handling and clean feeds for indexing and discovery services.

Transactional email

Author, reviewer and editor communications delivered reliably through a properly authenticated sending setup, with templates you can edit yourself.

APC collection & invoicing

Payment gateways, automated invoices, receipts, waiver handling and reconciliation against accepted articles. No more manual matching.

Reporting & dashboards

Submission volume, acceptance rates, turnaround times and revenue in one live view, exportable whenever your board asks.

Platform work

Journal websites

Fast, indexable, mobile-first article pages with structured metadata built in.

Author & reviewer portals

Self-service status tracking that cuts support email at the source.

Migrations

Moving off spreadsheets, legacy installs or an unmaintained platform without losing archive integrity or URLs.

Integrations

OJS, Crossref, ORCID, DOAJ feeds, payment gateways, CRM and email systems wired together, with data flowing both ways.

Custom tooling

Batch manuscript formatting, bulk metadata correction, internal admin panels for whatever your process actually needs.

How it works

1

Workflow audit

We sit with your team, trace a manuscript end to end and document every manual handoff, duplicate entry and delay. You get the map whether or not you hire us.

2

We build and deploy

Automation and integrations built around your existing process, tested against real data, deployed with your team trained on it. Fixed scope, fixed price.

3

Ongoing support

Monitoring, updates, fixes and new automation as your volume grows, on a flat monthly plan with a named contact.

Built by people who run the same operation

We publish our own peer-reviewed open access journals, and every system on this page exists because we needed it first. The reviewer reminder logic, the batch formatting toolchain, the metadata pipeline — all of it was built to solve our own bottlenecks before it was ever sold to a client.

That’s why our discovery calls are short. You won’t spend the first hour explaining what a desk rejection is or why a late Crossref deposit matters.

Weeks

Your unpublished research stays confidential

Manuscripts, reviewer identities and author records are handled under signed NDAs, encrypted storage and least-privilege access. Every system we deliver carries audit logs, automated backups and documented recovery procedures — so you can show exactly who accessed what, and restore it if anything goes wrong.

No vendor lock-in. Your data, metadata and archive are exportable in standard formats at any point, including the day you leave.

Flat monthly, scoped up front

Publishing Operations runs as a build phase with fixed-scope pricing, followed by a flat monthly plan covering hosting, monitoring, support and continuous improvement. No hourly billing. You’ll have the number before work starts.

FAQ

Usually not. Most engagements start by connecting and automating what you already have. If a rebuild is genuinely the cheaper path, we’ll show you the maths before you commit.

We run in parallel until the new pipeline is verified against real data. Archives, DOIs and article URLs are preserved — nothing that’s already published breaks.

You do. Code, data, metadata and configuration are yours, documented and exportable.

Yes. We regularly build the publishing layer while an in-house team handles the rest, and we document everything so they can maintain it.

That’s the normal starting point. The audit exists to sort it out, and it’s the deliverable that tends to change how people think about their own workflow.

Start with the audit

One session, and you’ll have a written map of every manual step costing your team time — plus a clear view of what’s worth automating first.
